Exciting Partnership Announcement: Transforming Lives in Donaldsonville with The Tinker Foundation

Jeff Soper

We are thrilled to share fantastic news with our community! LOCC is excited to announce a new partnership with The Tinker Foundation in Donaldsonville. This collaboration marks a significant step forward, allowing us to open a second location dedicated to serving children more effectively.

The Tinker Foundation’s generous support provides an incredible opportunity for many families. With transportation challenges often hindering access to essential services, this new location in West Ascension aims to eliminate these barriers and offer a more convenient access point for families in need.

Understanding the Need

Transportation challenges profoundly affect families, especially those who face financial hardships. According to a study by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, nearly 4 million U.S. households lack access to a vehicle. Many parents find it difficult to transport their children to our current location, resulting in a gap in access to vital resources and support.

Our new location will serve as a lifeline, assisting families in overcoming these challenges. By establishing a presence in West Ascension, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most.

Our Goals for the New Location

To ensure a successful launch and smooth operation of our new site, LOCC has outlined several key objectives that need immediate attention:

  1. Designing Efficient Use of Space

An efficient space design is crucial for the operational success of our second location. We want to foster an inviting environment that maximizes productivity while ensuring comfort for children and their families. This could include areas designated for activities, storage, and community meetings. For example, we aim to incorporate a play area for children to be mentally and physically engaged during their time in our facility.

  2. Creating an Inventory System

Effective coordination is vital when managing resources across two locations. An efficient inventory system will help track supplies and resources, ensuring both locations can support each other seamlessly. With approximately 1,000 items expected to be shared between locations, we need a system that allows quick access and conduct regular audits.

  3. Shelving Units and Storage Bins

To support our inventory management, we require shelving units and bins to store resources safely and in an organized manner. A clutter-free environment will streamline our operations and ensure we can provide timely assistance to families.

  4. Enclosed Trailer for Inventory Movement

To facilitate the movement of supplies and manage larger deliveries, an enclosed trailer is necessary. This will improve our logistics, allowing us to transport essential items between locations efficiently.

  5. Spreading Awareness

It’s crucial to communicate LOCC’s services effectively within the community. By ensuring families know where to turn for support, we can connect with those who need assistance the most. Our goal is to reach over 500 families in the first year.

  6. Building a Strong Volunteer Base

Our expansion relies on the dedication of passionate volunteers. We aim to recruit individuals who want to support children and families in need. With the right community engagement, we hope to build a volunteer base of at least 50 active members within six months.

Getting Involved: How You Can Help

The excitement surrounding this partnership isn’t just for LOCC; it extends to everyone in our community who believes in support and collaboration. Here are ways you can help make this new location operational:
